Engine Tune-up Theory of Daijiro Inada

Updated: Jun 8, 2022

Mechadol Yuki:

Mr. Inada, I heard you finally sold your S30Z.

I wanted to leave it on video before giving it to the person who bought it.

This is the vehicle that was exhibited at the Auto Salon, right?

Daijido Inada:

This is a bit of customization on my part.

I designed and built my own original car for the last one.

We first look for a good body and tune up the engine.

Customize 280Z.

This S30Z engine usually uses a carburetor in Japan.

Then put on over fenders. Everyone's taste is the same.

I designed the S30Z to be a left-hand drive.

I want to tune it with injection so that it is easy for people overseas to drive.

I asked my friend Mr. Nagata from Top Secret to do the tuning.

He's turning all GT-Rs and VRs now. He hasn't done any L-Type lately.

I convinced him to just remember the old days and do it.

Mr. Nagata hadn't done it in a long time.

I told him to turn as good as the carburetor.

I told them to make an engine that makes this kind of sound.

More revving than power. That is how this engine was developed.

Mr. Nagata's way of making engines is exquisite.

That's why I can trust him with my engine.

Mechadol Yuki:

Big fan of this engine is here today.

He really wants this engine.

Daijiro Inada:

Who is he?

Mechadol Yuki:

This is Mr. Sekine from a company called Promote.

Takeshi Sekine:

We are an auto body repair shop.

Mechadol Yuki:

He venerated Mr. Inada as though he was a god.

He said Mr. Dai's influence changed his life.

Takeshi Sekine:

I read your magazines all the time.

Mechadol Yuki:

He's a big fan of this engine, so can you talk to him?

Daijiro Inada:

This engine is built to the latest specifications of injection, not carburetor.

The fuel control system for the injection is all the latest V-Pro.

Here's the V-Pro to control everything, and here are my favorite modifications.

All with sensors attached.

Very good idle tuning and well-controlled fuel control.

Mechadol Yuki:

This was finally made and exhibited at the Auto Salon, but you've already sold it.

Daijiro Inada:

I'll make the next car.

Mechadol Yuki:

What car are you going to do next?

Daijiro Inada:

Next, the same left-hand drive, full tune-engine.

Mechadol Yuki:

Full engine tune-up with the L series engine?

Daijiro Inada:

I want to achieve the fastest speed with S30Z with the L series engine.

Mechadol Yuki:

Is this trying to be the fastest?

Daijiro Inada:

This is a car to enjoy the atmosphere when you get in it. Run with a good feeling.

The next is the third one.

Mechadol Yuki:

Did you ever finish this second one?

Daijiro Inada:

I've already ordered a base vehicle now.

The third one will be a full engine tune-up.

Fully tuned S30Z to at least 300 km/h specifications.

Mechadol Yuki:

Do you think you can do that?

Takeshi Sekine:

The base is S30Z and the engine is still an L-type full tune-up Single Over Head Camshaft.

Daijiro Inada:

And put a turbo on it.

It won't go fast enough, so we'll have to put a turbo on it.

We'd have to produce at least 600 horsepower.

Mechadol Yuki:

I know someone who knows a lot about frame machines with jig systems.

Daijiro Inada:

Please introduce me to that person.

Mechadol Yuki:

Why don't we start with a frame modification using a jig system?

Daijiro Inada:

Yes, because if you don't use a jig system, it won't run straight.

Mechadol Yuki:

Mr. Sekine is also good at maintenance using the jig system.

Daijiro Inada:

Next time I'll take the engine down and rebuild it.

I don't care about the engine. We need to prepare a solid body.

Mechadol Yuki:

The engine is not unimportant, is it?

Daijiro Inada:

Engines can be made in Japan if we want to.

Yes, because if you don't use a jig system, it won't run straight.

The S30Z has a wheelbase of only about 2500mm.

Now, 86 has over 2700mm.

I drove 319 km/h with the latest 86.

Mechadol Yuki:

Did you drive that?

Daijiro Inada:

I drove.

The size of the 86 is about this. However, the wheelbase of 30Z is very short.

I used to do the maximum speed challenge with this all the time.

Still, about 280 km/h was the best I could do.

I can't go any faster than that.

It didn't have enough power, and it didn't run straight.

The speed of 300 km/h in the Nissan Z-car was exceeded by 130.

The first 300 km/h record was set after the S130.

Nobody's S30Z has ever done 300 km/h, so that's my retirement fun.

Mechadol Yuki:

Do you want to have fun in your old age with the fastest challenge at 300 km/h?

Daijiro Inada:

I'm looking to hit 300 km/h with the S30Z.

Mechadol Yuki:

Are you trying to buy a new Z too?

Daijiro Inada:

Anyone would tune the engine for a new Z-car.

I've been thinking about building a car that can do 300 km/h on an S30Z.

Takeshi Sekine:

In a 2 Seater body?

It has got to be 2 Seater.

Daijiro Inada:

I was actually thinking of doing a 2 by 2.

Because the wheelbase is longer if it is 2 by 2.

But I didn't do it because everyone said 2 by 2 would be uncool.

I found a one-off different aero something that can withstand 300 km/h.

Make to Inada's specifications.

Mechadol Yuki:

Who are you going to get to put that on?

Daijiro Inada:

Mr. Inoue of Star Road will put on.

Mechadol Yuki:

Mr. Inoue will have a hard time again.

Daijiro Inada:

I need Star Road to do the suspension and bodywork.

Mechadol Yuki:

You ask Mr. Nagata from Top Secret to tune the engine for you.

Daijiro Inada:

If we succeed, we can make the engine and others to the same specifications.

Mechadol Yuki:

Body modification can be done by Mr. Sekine.

Daijiro Inada:

We can make bodies too. And have them all make money off of it.

We'll do it in service at first.

Mechadol Yuki:

We will guide you through the video, but we are also looking for sponsors.

If you are interested in the Fastest Speed Challenge, please contact us.

Daijiro Inada:

Right now I'm just doing a lot of testing on the test track with Phoenix Power.

Then I can blend in and test my car too.

So the test is perfect.

Mechadol Yuki:

Do you plan to run overseas with your new S30Z?

Daijiro Inada:

I'm thinking of selling it if someone offers me any amount.

Then I'd use the money from selling it to build a car.

And I'm going to challenge myself overseas.

What I would like to try abroad is Bonneville's 480 km/h.

Mechadol Yuki:

480 km/h? Is it possible?

Daijiro Inada:

I'll get a new car ready because I can't go fast in a car like this.

I would probably select the A90 Supra 2JZ.

Maximum speed can only be achieved with 1,000 horsepower and 1,550 kg.

Bonneville, or the Silver States I turned over before.

One more time, I'm going to do the fastest challenge in the Silver States.

Mechadol Yuki:

Don't turn it over again.

Daijiro Inada:

I don't know about that.

Mechadol Yuki:

I don't think the tires will hold up.

Daijiro Inada:

After that, I thought a lot about how to run.

You've been thinking about it ever since.

It's a public road, so don't run in the same place.

Always in a serpentine state, with tires always flat on the ground.

I simply drove straight, which is why the inside of the tire shaved off and got a flat tire.

Takeshi Sekine:

Wasn't the road very crooked?

Mechadol Yuki:

It's not a circuit track.

Daijiro Inada:

So I always need to find a place to run the tires flat.

Mechadol Yuki:

That's the kind of reflection you've had.

Daijiro Inada:

I thought I could make it to about halfway.

Mechadol Yuki:

This time, this car is already sold.

The next time another car with the highest speed in the 30 series is built.

It will be put up for sale again.

If you're interested in buying it, we'd love to hear from you.

And with the money from the sale, you built a car that lasts more than 400 km/h.

Daijiro Inada:

There is no limit to the speed.

There are no limits, so keep going.

For a long time now, the highest speed grand record holder is usually the one who dies in the end.

Mostly everyone is dead.

Mechadol Yuki:

Is that what you're aiming for?

Daijiro Inada:

In the end, they die. They don't quit until they die.

Speed is always unlimited.

I would have loved to develop a right-hand-drive version of the New Z.

Anyone can engine tune-up into the New Z.

Mechadol Yuki:

Are you saying you're going to get top speed out of that?

Daijiro Inada:

Actually, the body is fine for a Supra.

Because no one does the maximum speed challenge in A90 Supra.

No one else is doing it, so I thought I'd do it.

I like to do things that other people don't do.

Mechadol Yuki:

Let's do it all.

With your help, we will do it all!

Daijiro Inada:

You're doing crowdfunding or something.

Mechadol Yuki:

Here's a fundraising professional.

Daijiro Inada:

He is a professional fundraiser, and we need these people to contribute.

He does everything.

Mechadol Yuki:

Also the manufacturer of the frame repair machine.

Daijiro Inada:

Everything from cars to parts to things like dispatching mechanics.

Hiroshi Kinoshita:

Based on what Mr. Inada just said I want to make sure that cars, engines, etc. are valued appropriately.

Daijiro Inada:

You're going to be my partner from now on.

Mechadol Yuki:

It's being said in front of the video.

Daijiro Inada:

I hope you all take good care of him.

We'll take care of the video too.

Mechadol Yuki:

So, look forward to the next video!

Daijiro Inada:

Everyone in the world, please support our project from now on!
